Dr. Gellman sees primarily patients from preschool through college aged, but also works with young adults, graduate students and young professionals. She treats primarily concerns regarding behaviors or outbursts, depression, anxiety disorders including OCD, PTSD, social anxiety, and neuro-developmental concerns such as autism, tics, and tourette's. With Dr. Gellman's medical background, she also treats mental health conditions closely related to medical disorders such as PANS/PANDAS, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities and genetic syndromes.
Dr. Gellman conducts visits both virtually and in person. This is typically based on patient preference, though occasionally federal and state prescribing guidelines may mandate in person visits for some medications. Dr. Gellman may also request an in person visit if there are any significant safety or compliance concerns.
As a child and adult psychiatrist, Dr. Gellman does prescribe psychotropic medications as a part of her treatment planning, but she can also work with your family if medication is not desired as an initial approach. Dr. Gellman frequently helps coordinate care with schools to ensure needs and accommodations are met, works with other participating physicians to ensure mental health facets of medical disorders are understood and addressed, as well as other therapists involved in treatment to coordinate care efforts. Dr Gellman is able to discuss and educate about lifestyle changes and basic therapeutic interventions that also play an essential role in mental health treatment, and we will revisit these in each session. Dr. Gellman also offers extended therapy visits upon request and availability primarily focusing on cognitive behavioral therapy and parent management training.
Dr. Gellman aims to make our visits comfortable and conversational. We usually start the visit by discussing the reason for seeking care with everyone- parent(s) and child present (if applicable). We will discuss additional relevant history such as developmental concerns, medical history, family history, and more to ensure Dr. Gellman is able to construct a full picture of you or your child and the current concerns you all are facing. We will then part ways if the child is comfortable, and Dr. Gellman will talk to the child alone for a bit for any additional insight he or she may have to offer, though any safety concerns would be disclosed to the parent. During this time, the parents and/or patients fill out written questionnaires as well if deemed helpful and not done prior to the appointment. We then all regroup and discuss the formulation including diagnoses and make a treatment plan that everyone is comfortable with, which may include medications, accommodations for work and/or school, further testing if needed, therapy recommendations, and any further collaboration with the treatment team as desired. Dr. Gellman works to ensure all questions and concerns are addressed by the end of our visit together.
Initially, appointments with Dr. Gellman will occur more frequently, typically every 2 weeks, especially if a new medication is prescribed. We will space out visits as we start to see improvement, initially to monthly, and then meeting every 2-3 months when we all feel things are stable. Dr. Gellman requires all patients to be seen at least every 3 months to continue receiving medications, and possibly more frequently if necessary for safety or current prescribing laws.
Dr. Gellman is not in network with any insurance carriers, and she does not interact with any insurance companies directly for reimbursement purposes . Appointments are paid by credit or debit card, and you will be provided a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement (if eligible).
Dr. Gellman is licensed in Colorado, Georgia, and Texas, though her physical office location is in Colorado.
Dr. Gellman has current availability for new patients within 1-2 weeks.
